Soukyuu no Fafner, or Fafner in the Azure: Dead Aggressor, was an anime produced by Xebec in 2004. The story centers on the island of Tatsumiyajima, where Makabe Kazuki and his friends have lived all their lives. Kazuki and his classmates' days are peaceful, until one day an intruder attacks and distrupts their lives. The intruder, called a Festum, and the arrival of Kazuki's childhood friend, Minashirou Soushi, back on the island, bring questions to the reality of their lives, and the secrets the adults of Tatsumiyajima have been hiding.
